The sheet owner and shared collaborators with Editor or Admin access to a sheet can manually change the color the task bar.
Task bars are the bars displayed horizontally in Gantt view, calendar view, and timeline view and vertically on the left side of cards in card view.
Change the color of a task bar
Depending on your view, the task bar can be an individual Gantt bar, a calendar event bar, a timeline item (bar or milestone), or a vertical color bar on a card.
It is not possible to change task bar colors in reports. Any task bar colors in reports reflect the color of the task bar in the source sheet.
Gantt or calendar view
- Right-click the task bar.
- If you are in Gantt View or calendar view, select Color Settings to open the color palette.
- Select your desired color. The task bar color saves immediately.
Card view
If you're in card view, select the color on the left edge of a card. The color palette appears immediately, and you can select the color you need.
Timeline view
If you are in timeline view, switch to Gantt, calendar, or card view and make changes there.
Other tips for editing the task bars
- You can use the Conditional Formatting button on the toolbar to set up rules that automatically apply colors to Gantt, calendar, and timeline bars based on criteria.
- Timeline view displays task bar colors, but you cannot change the colors of the task bars or milestones directly in the timeline view. Switch your sheet to Gantt, card, or calendar view to edit task bar colors.
- To set a default task bar color for your card, Gantt, calendar, and timeline views, set your own Colors & Logo. All new sheets created afterwards will inherit the selected color.
